This review goes without saying, so I will keep it short.

I am mostly here to review the work done by Andy Serkis in reading these versions of the audiobooks.
Serkis does an expert job of depicting character, making it easy to distinguish between the Hobbits, and the Hobbits from the men, and the men from the Dwarfs etc. The one rogue voice I found across all three novels was Beregond, who for some reason was blighted with a Scouse accent.
Serkis also wonderfully wraps his voice around the prose of Tolkien. It's no secret that in modern times some struggle with the way that Tolkien went about writing his works. But, in my opinion, Serkis handles the reading so well that it makes LOTR far more accessible than it might otherwise be to newer audiences.
As such, I can thoroughly recommend Serkis' readings of The Lord of the Rings to both old and new readers of the greatest work in fantasy fiction.
Final score: 5/5
